About Jared Hautamaki

Jared is a classically trained actor, an attorney licensed in Arizona, Michigan, and the District of Columbia, and a USA Hockey Silver Level Goalie and Level 3 Coach. He’s in his third year as a Head Coach at the Montgomery Youth Hockey Association, earning the Cleveland Howard – Coach of Year honors in 2025.

He serves as a Reserve Appellate Judge for the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. He has worked extensively on environmental enforcement and emergency management, administratively challenged educational systems on diversity issues, succesfully litigated federal equal employment cases and has developed federal school security and emergency management policy.

His international outer space law work including space sustainability, mission authorization, nuclear risk assessment and launch vehicle certification, and other commercial space launch issues. He received an EPA Honor Award for his work on the Mars 2020 Interagency Nuclear Safety Risk Assessment.

In August 2024, he was appointed to the Department of Commerce Office of Space Commerce Advisory Committee on Excellence in Space for his space law expertise.


Jared has written extensively on aviation environmental issues and airport and airspace congestion. His research at McGill looked at the legal and regulatory hurdles to increasing commercial seaplane service in the United States, particularly on the East Coast and in the Great Lakes.

At the Environmental Protection Agency he served as a Superfund enforcement attorney, negotiating multi-million dollar environmental cleanup and restoration orders and settlements. He served as a Special Assistant in the Office of the Administrator for 15 months. He is certified in Incident Command Structure and deployed as the Situation Unit Leader during the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Response to the EPA Headquarters Emergency Operations Center and to the Region 2 Emergency Operations Center during the Hurricane Maria Emergency Response. He also served as a National Watch Officer in the EPA Emergency Operations Center, managing environmental incidents and response. He received Bronze and Silver Honor Medals for his work on the Superfund Hard Rock Mining Initiative and his work on the White House Council for Native American Affairs.

His federal Indian law work includes serving as the Environmental Protection Agency’s subject matter expert on Tribal Treaties and Tribal Consultation. His research on “consensus” as the goal of tribal consultation was incorporated into the Biden Administration’s Presidential Memorandum on Uniform Standards for Tribal Consultation. He served as an advisor for the White House Council on Native American Affairs implementing the Memorandum of Understanding Regarding Interagency Coordination and Collaboration For The Protection of Tribal Treaty and Reserved Rights, for which he was the principal drafter.

Prior to his first law degree, he served for five years as a legislative staffer to Congressman John Conyers, Jr. securing millions in federal appropriations for projects in the City of Detroit, Wayne County and the State of Michigan. He served as a campaign advisor and fundraiser, producing events raising over $500K for Conyers for Congress. He served as the Deputy Campaign Manager for AFSCME for Howard Dean in Michigan, responsible for GOTV efforts in Oakland, Gennesee, Saginaw and Bay counties. He was the Congressman’s speechwriter for the 2000 Democratic National Convention.

Prior to performing on Capitol Hill, Jared was a paid actor at Crossroads Village, performing in a vaudville show and “robbing” the Huckleberry Railroad on an hourly basis. He has starred in local and collegiate performances of “Good”, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”, “Room Service”, “The Selkie”, “The Sorceror’s Apprentice”, “Beau Jest”, “Oedipus Rex” and was an extra on Season Two’s Season Finale of West Wing.
